Top Mechanics Lien Blog Posts of 2011

It’s the end of the year, and your RSS feeds are puking articles with tips for the new year and reflections on the last. At first, I thought to fight the urge. Obviously, I threw in the towel and are here to present you with the top ten blog posts from the Construction Lien Blog in 2011.

To assemble this list, I looked at the site’s analytics for the past year, and pulled the ten most viewed posts.  Posts from later in the year didn’t get a fair shake because they weren’t up as long to accumulate the visit count, so I excluded the bottom three general posts and substituted them with the most popular from the final quarter of the year.  Here goes:

  1. California Lien Law Changes Effective January 1, 2011 — Are You Ready?
  2. 5 Things To Know About The Miller Act
  3. Summary of 2011 New Jersey Construction Lien Law Changes
  4. California Lien Law Forms, Procedures & Laws Changing on January 1, 2011
  5. What Happens After You File A Mechanic’s Lien?
  6. How to Prepare for a Non-Paying Project
  7. How To File A Mechanic’s Lien: A Comprehensive Overview That Applies To Any State
  8. How Long Will A Mechanics Lien Cause Havoc?  Not Very
  9. How To File A California Mechanics Lien
  10. Everything You Need To Know About Mechanic Liens

Thanks to all my readers for their support and patronage in 2011.  I look forward to a great 2012, and wish you a happy new year.

Zlien Maintenance Over Weekend – We’re Better Off!

If you visited the Zlien website on Saturday or Sunday morning, you noticed that the page was down for maintenance.  We had a little cleaning up and upgrading to do, and figured the holiday weekend was a perfect time.

Zlien is fully functional again, and back to helping clients across the county file mechanic liens and preliminary notices.  Thanks for your patience, and hope everyone had a great holiday.

LienWizard Confirms Project’s City and County From Zip Code

We just made our industry-leading LienWizard better by integrating an automatic confirmation of your project’s city and county. Now, when you input the construction project’s zip code, our lien ordering system atomically predicts and confirms the project’s county, city and state.

Here’s a screenshot of this new feature in work within the LienWizard:

LienWizard Confirms Projects City and County From Zip Code

Knowing the construction project’s county is critically important to mechanic lien filings, as most states require you to file your mechanic’s lien in the county where the project is located. By verifying the county against the project’s zip code, this new feature is another way Zlien can help you Lien Smart.

Adding Contacts Made Easier In The LienPilot

We made a small improvement to the LienPilot last week in how project contacts are added to your database. Previously, after pressing the “Add Contact” link, the user was directed to a second page where the contact information was requested. When the contact information was entered, the user was brought back to the project’s contact screen.

The multiple screen flow here was unnecessary, and you can now add a project contact without ever leaving the contact page. When you press the “Add Contact” button, the contact fields appear.

While this is a subtle change, it really makes a difference in the usability of this page, and if you’re inputting a lot of contacts it can save a lot of time. Here’s a screenshot of how this feature looks now:

Free Widget Puts Mechanic Lien Deadline Calculator On Your Website or Blog

Put the power of Zlien’s Lien & Notice Deadline Calculator on your website or blog with its new widget.

The Lien Pilot has helped contractors and suppliers across the country calculate mechanic lien and preliminary notice deadlines for easy lien compliance.  That powerful database has been condensed into a widget that calculates mechanic lien and preliminary notice deadlines in seconds, with just the project’s basic information.

Users of the widget can add the mechanic lien deadlines to their desktop calendar (i.e. Outlook), can have them emailed, or can sign up for a free account to track them through the Lien Pilot.

Website and blog owners with a construction audience can add the Widget to their website with just a few lines of code:

Use of the widget is free to website and blog owners, and to web visitors.

Scott Wolfe Jr., a construction attorney and founder of Zlien is excited about the release of this Widget and other partnership opportunities with construction-oriented websites and services:

We want to make it easy and free for those with construction-related websites to offer a powerful service to their visitors.   This widget is interactive and simple to use, and it helps visitors address the difficult task of mechanic lien compliance.

The Lien Pilot is a product of zlien.  It’s a web-based application the helps contractors and suppliers manage their mechanic lien and notice requirements and deadlines.   Users are notified of upcoming deadlines by email, RSS Feed, or by exporting the deadlines to a desktop calendar like Microsoft Outlook.

When something is due, the contractor or supplier can prepare the document themselves, or they can order it from zlien with the click of a button.   Zlien prepares and files mechanics liens, preliminary notices, bond claims and more for contractors and suppliers across the country.

Try it here:

Use of the Widget is subject to zlien’s Terms of Use.
